Hopkinsville turns out for the Veterans Honor Parade on a picture-perfect Saturday
The 5AM Hopkinsville team
If you were downtown Saturday morning, you were in good company. Hundreds of community members lined West Ninth and Virginia for the annual parade, and WHOP Radio called it a picture perfect autumn day. It began at the War Memorial Building and ended at the Christian County Justice Center, where a ceremony thanked veterans and their families.
Shannon Lane, director of Southwestern KY Military Affairs and an Army veteran of over 20 years, led the ceremony. Mayor J.R. Knight and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam read a proclamation declaring Wednesday, Nov. 11, as Veterans Day. VFW Post 1913 Commander John Brame accepted it for the veterans who attended.
Three groups took home awards at the ceremony
| Award | Winner |
|---|---|
| JROTC Challenge | Christian County Tigers JROTC |
| Most Participants | Indian Hills Elementary |
| Most Spirited | Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School |
